Tucson Metro Chamber Project Prosperity Selected as a Common Ground Award Top 20 Project of the Year

Tucson, AZ (September 22, 2017) – The Tucson Metro Chamber’s Project Prosperity program has been selected by the Metropolitan Pima Alliance board of directors as one of the 2017 Common Ground Award Top 20 Projects of the Year. The Common Ground Awards ceremony honors community leaders, projects and economic development programs that overcame great obstacles through collaboration.

In a news release distributed September 18, MPA wrote “MPA Board President Kevin Hall remarked, ‘It is important to recognize how far we have come as a community and highlight the economic impact of monumental, regional collaboration that has taken place over the past 20-years.’”

The Tucson Metro Chamber Project Prosperity Task Force (PPTF) was developed when the Chamber brought together a group of area business leaders to assess promoting a higher level of understanding and cooperation between business and City of Tucson departments.  The task force identified seven opportunities for improvement then reached out to City officials to work together on a defined set of objectives.  Since reaching initial agreement to work together, City officials and Project Prosperity Task Force members have met regularly to achieve positive results with extraordinary cooperation.

Bill Assenmacher, chair of the Project Prosperity Task Force stated “The Tucson Metro Chamber and the City of Tucson have collaborated on a number of objectives.  All of these have the intention to speed up the opening of new businesses and reduce the steps and regulation needed to expand or build new buildings.  This will result in new jobs for the community and much needed tax revenue for the city.”

The seven Project Prosperity objectives included:

  1. Charter Change
  2. Infill Districts and Incentives
  3. Business Licenses
  4. Permitting and Inspection Process
  5. Sign Code
  6. Opportunity Quantification
  7. Business Workshop
