Chamber Supports the Speedway + Campbell Gateway Project

Chamber Supports the Speedway + Campbell Gateway Project

The Tucson Metro Chamber advocates for economic development, commerce and growth. When we grow business, we build communities as the resources become available to go towards community priorities.  To that end, the Tucson Metro Chamber is excited to support the Speedway + Campbell Gateway Project. Currently in the rezoning phase for the old Palm Shadows Apartment, the Project is a true mixed-use, transit-oriented development that will provide exciting retail/grocery/restaurant/outdoor plaza and gathering space at the ground level, office/residential/hospitality possibilities on the upper floors.  This project represents a true shift in the Tucson regional growth model to urbanize the central corridor.  The property is uniquely situated with all commercial, university, and major arterial roadways in the direct vicinity.  Central neighborhoods are nearby but not directly adjacent.  The Chamber’s collaborative effort called Project Prosperity is working to create opportunities throughout all of Tucson to incentivize this type of development highly sought after. As we attract talent and continue to bring companies into our community, an effort necessary to decrease our poverty level, we must create pockets of true urban development to compete with other similarly sized cities.

The development team has been working since 2015 on the Plan Amendment (approved) and now the rezoning to a PAD.  The team has engaged the surrounding neighborhoods throughout the process and has striven to address all reasonable concerns.  April 19th at 6:00 p.m. is the Zoning Examiner public hearing at the City Council chambers.  We urge you to understand more by visiting the development website at www.speedwaycampbellgateway.com, and lend your voice of support to this important, forward-thinking project.  If you cannot attend, please send an email or letter of support to the Zoning Examiner, c/o john.beall@tucsonaz.gov.
