Introducing the City of Tucson’s Legacy Business Program

Among the many reasons we are lucky to call Tucson home are the city’s unique culture and the community’s emphasis on traditions. Tucson’s history dates back thousands of years and appreciation of that history is part of what inspired the City of Tucson to launch its Legacy Business Program in July 2021, which recognizes locally owned businesses that have been in operation for at least 25 years and that have helped to shape their community’s identity.

“When our local businesses grow and thrive, Tucson wins,” said Tucson Mayor Regina Romero. “Through this designation we recognize local businesses that have become a household name. Their longevity and economic impact are deserving of this recognition,” said Romero.

Businesses that apply and qualify for the designation will be given a Legacy sticker for their windows, a place on the City’s Legacy Business Registry, and priority consideration for City programs (as available).

As of this writing, there are 14 businesses in the program.

  • PureBuild Inc.
  • Mo’s Gallery and Fine Framing
  • Tuller Trophy and Awards
  • Nadine’s Bakery
  • Perri Jewelers
  • Hem and Her
  • The Stillwell House
  • The Specialists, Inc.
  • Poster Mirto McDonald, Inc.,
  • Fix Auto Tucson
  • Recyco, Inc.
  • Reproductions Inc.
  • BK Carne Asada and Hotdogs
  • Crescent Tobacco Shop
  • Eegee’s

To be eligible for the designation, businesses must be independently owned, for-profit, and in continuous operation in Tucson for at least 25 years, with no more than one year of a break in operations. Legacy businesses must be able to provide a narrative on their impact in the community, and owners must be committed to maintaining the defining services, products, or traditions of the business.

“Legacy businesses are a vital piece of Tucson’s history, culture and economy,” said Barbra Coffee, Director of Economic Initiatives for the City of Tucson. “I’m excited to launch this program and for the City to continue championing the success of these businesses that have made Tucson a unique and exciting place to be.”

The program’s online application is open, and applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Legacy businesses may be recognized in City of Tucson marketing materials including, but not limited to, printed materials, interactive maps and brochures, and recognition at events.
