U.S. Chamber Awards Tucson Metro Chamber with 5-Star Accreditation

Tucson, AZ (March 8, 2017) The United States Chamber of Commerce today awarded the Tucson Metro Chamber with 5-Star Accreditation for its sound policies, effective organizational procedures, and positive impact on the community.

“Accreditation validates a chamber as having programs that benefit their local economy and for positively influencing action in their community,” said Raymond P. Towle, IOM, CAE, Vice President, Federation Relations and Institute for Organization Management.  “We applaud these organizations for advancing the principles of free enterprise.”

Accreditation is the only national program that recognizes chambers for their effective organizational procedures and community involvement. In order to receive Accreditation, a chamber must meet minimum standards in their operations and programs, including areas of governance, government affairs, and technology. This extensive self-review can take 6-9 months to complete.

“Being recognized as a five-star chamber of commerce by the U.S. Chamber is something we should all take great pride in. This designation says the Tucson Metro Chamber is on target with its programs and is making a positive difference in our metro area, congratulations to Mike Varney and his team,” said Tucson Metro Chamber Chairman of the Board Robert D. Ramirez.

Local chambers are rated Accredited, 3-Stars, 4-Stars, or 5-Stars. State chambers are recognized as either Accredited State Chamber or Accredited State Chamber with Distinction. The final determination is made by the Accrediting Board, a committee of U.S. Chamber board members.

Michael Varney, Tucson Metro Chamber president and CEO stated “I have often said that the staff of the Tucson Metro Chamber is the best in the business. We are very pleased that the United States Chamber of Commerce has recognized the hard work of our staff with a five-star accreditation designation.  Five-star recognition from the U.S. Chamber is extremely rigorous which is why so few chambers of commerce have achieved this level of designation. The Chamber’s program of economic expansion, advocating for job creators and workforce development is a program we are very proud of.”

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations. www.uschamber.com
