The Tucson Metro Chamber was recognized with four major awards at the 2017 annual conference of the Western Association of Chamber Executives in Los Angeles this week. WACE is an association of 420 chambers of commerce in the western states of the U.S. and western provinces of Canada.
Executive Vice President Lori Banzhaf was recognized as the Gerald Hathaway Staff Person of the Year for her achievements in business development and for creating an important workforce development program called Intern-to-Career. This program links TUSD students with local businesses to create paid summer internships that ultimately lead to employment in five different sectors: auto technology, construction, engineering, healthcare and hospitality.
The Chamber’s Intern-to-Career program was recognized for its originality and impact on improving the availability of qualified local employees.
The Chamber’s new video called The Good Stuff won first place in its communications award category. The video was produced locally by Abbott Animation.
President & CEO Mike Varney was selected as the CEO of the Year for the Tucson Metro Chamber’s overall program of work, organizational achievements and contributions to the chamber of commerce industry over a career spanning 15 years in Las Vegas and Tucson.
